Machine Service

When did you last have your sewing machine or serger serviced? If you can't remember, the machine is past due.

Every machine needs to be lubricated, cleaned and have the timing and the tension adjusted. How often depends on the amount and type of sewing you do, and on the machine model.

It will take 1 - 2 weeks to have your machine serviced so don't delay.

NEEDLES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

When you have a machine problem such as skipped stitches, try changing to a new, never used needle. If a needle has a burr, it can cause skipped stitches. It does sound too easy, but it can make a big difference.

Use the correct  needle for the thread & fabric combination. Drop into the studio with your projects so we can choose the correct needle and thread.

I stock Schmetz and Inspira needles. Check their web sites for more needle information.

KEEPING IT CLEAN

After every project, and sometimes during the project, your machine needs to be cleaned.

Use a small brush to clean out the bobbin assembly. Some assemblies can be taken apart for a complete cleaning. Come into the studio, and I will show you how.

The machine case can be cleaned with a  no more than slightly damp cloth.

Do not use compressed air on a sewing machine. It only forces the lint farther back into the machine.

Compressed air can be used on a serger.

Cover the machine when not being used.

Wash your hands before you begin and if you eat while sewing, use a spoon for the sweets.
